Dental Bridges, Dentures and
Dental Implants Compared

To start, dental bridges have been the standard for tooth replacement for decades. They can be used to replace single or multiple consecutive teeth, ensuring that neighboring teeth do not shift out of place into the open spaces left after your tooth was lost. However, they do require removal of existing tooth enamel to place, just like dental crowns. On average, they last about 10 to 15 years.

If you are missing several teeth on opposite sides of your mouth or all teeth in your lower or upper arch, a denture can be an affordable yet comprehensive solution. The denture is made from multiple materials, including acrylics, porcelain, composite resin and even metal, depending on the denture you choose. You’ll need to practice daily maintenance and have them reshaped and repaired every seven years or so in order to keep them fitting comfortably.

Finally, dental implants are designed to replace the root and tooth portion of your tooth, making it the only tooth replacement option to do this. This means you’ll need to undergo oral surgery to have the implant placed. However, because of the integration process that occurs with the titanium post and your bone tissue, you can expect long-term function and enhanced aesthetic appeal. For example, it’s designed to last 30 years to a lifetime with little concern.

OurPersonal Recommendation?
Dental Implants

Model natural tooth and dental implant supported replacement tooth

Blue Coast Dental often recommends dental implants to patients for a number of reasons. Not only do dental implants provide a truly long-term solution for missing teeth, but they are actually very cost-effective compared to bridges and dentures. It is true that their upfront cost is higher, but the savings you can expect make them truly worthwhile. This on top of their functional aspects make them difficult to recommend over another treatment. Eating the foods you want, including apples, steak and nuts, feels natural, another benefit that cannot be necessarily guaranteed for other options.

If dental implants sound like the right treatment for you, you’re going to need someone who is an expert in proper placement.

How Our Periodontist Ensures a Successful Treatment

Torrance California dentists

Successful dental implant treatment means having gum tissue that is sufficiently healthy. The best person to determine if that is the case is a periodontist. Our in-house periodontist, Dr. Maria Galvan, is happy to examine your gum health in greater detail and provide her professional recommendation on whether dental implants are the best option for you during your consultation! With his expertise, we can make sure that your implant is placed correctly and that your gum tissue heals as intended every step of the way. After all, healthy gum tissue is crucial to the long-term health of your future smile.
