If you’ve opted to use Invisalign in Torrance to straighten your teeth and correct your bite, you already know about the many advantages it offers. Unlike with traditional braces, you can still eat all your favorite foods, it’s easy to keep your teeth and gums clean, and (best of all) you’re getting great results – invisibly! You get most of these benefits because you can take out your aligner trays, but the ability to remove them also means you must take good care of them as well. In this blog, you’ll learn how to maintain your trays and care for your teeth during treatment so you get the best results possible!

How Should You Take Care of Your Aligners?

When your aligners are well cared for, they can do their job of moving your teeth better. Here are some tips for maintaining them:

  • Keep them clean– You already know that it’s important to keep your teeth clean, but don’t forget about your trays. Gently brush them each day with clear liquid soap or ask your dentist for a special solution to periodically soak them in.
  • Wear them for at least 22 hours a day – It’s safe to say that everyone wants to get their final result as soon as possible. The best way to do that is to make sure you keep your trays in at least 22 hours a day.
  • Only drink water when wearing your trays – Drinking anything besides plain water can create an odor or stain your aligners.
  • Take great care of your teeth – It’s not uncommon for people to have cavities or gum problems after traditional braces are removed because they weren’t able to keep everything clean. It’s much easier in Invisalign, so be sure to brush and floss regularly. The healthier and cleaner your teeth are, the better your smile will look when you’re done!
  • Pay attention during meals – Do you find yourself wrapping your trays in a napkin during meals? Unfortunately, that makes it easy to accidentally throw them away later. Always store your trays in their protective case during meals.
  • Get regular checkups – Make sure to stay consistent with checkups and cleanings throughout the Invisalign process.

Is There Anything You Should Avoid While In Treatment?

Fortunately, Invisalign is such convenient way to straighten your teeth that this list is pretty short:

  • Don’t use too much force to put your trays in or take them out because you can warp or break them.
  • Don’t clean your trays with toothpaste or denture cleaner. These products are a bit too harsh and can scratch or damage them.

If you like the idea of getting great results with as little maintenance as possible, Invisalign is an excellent choice for you. By complying with these few guidelines, your treatment will go smoothly from beginning to end!
